Skydiving has this great ability to make you feel incredible! When you skydive, the feelings you receive are extremely liberating, and many first-time skydivers report feeling like a new person following their jump.
Although many individuals skydive for the thrill, they frequently learn that skydiving’s extraordinary freedom and spectacular beauty are far more than they could have dreamed.
You feel powerful and successful, as if you’re ready to take on the world and face anything.
We’ve all seen Instagram-worthy photos and videos of adrenaline-pumping skydiving. It’s one of the most enjoyable trips you’ll ever have, and children would enjoy participating.
Parents are begging their children to let them freefall, and some consider it. But what age must you be to skydive legally?
SKYDIVING AGE LIMIT RESTRICTIONS
Note: YOU MUST BE 18 YEARS OLD TO SKYDIVE IN THE UNITED STATES (NO EXCEPTIONS)
What’s the Minimum Age for Skydiving?
The industry bodies determine policy, technology, and training requirements for the skydiving sport. All USPA member dropzones must follow strict safety, instructor qualifications, and equipment maintenance criteria.
All first-time skydivers must be at least 18 years old, according to the USPA.
This is a hard and fast rule: if you don’t have an ID, you can’t leap. Ensure you have a proper government-issued ID before walking out to the dropzone.
Is There a Maximum Skydiving Age?
Nope! Indeed, the skydiving community is well-known for welcoming, encouraging, and inspiring people of all ages and phases, including elderly citizens.
Whatever your date of birth, if you’re in excellent health and live a moderately active lifestyle, you’re likely a suitable candidate for skydiving.
For example, former President George H. W. Bush celebrated his 75th, 80th, 85th, and 90th birthdays in freefall, and people all across the world commemorate their triple digits every year.
Can You Take Children to Skydive?
The simple answer is, No, you can’t. To skydive, one must be at least 18 years old, according to US law.
Children are prohibited from skydiving by two major organizations in United States:
Strong Enterprises and United Parachute Technologies are two companies that make skydiving equipment.
These firms created limitations for using its tandem gear, including a minimum age requirement, to comply with FAA safety standards.
The United States Parachute Association is a non-profit organization that promotes the use of parachutes.
Considering the age of the majority, the USPA mandated that skydivers be at least 18 years old, and dropzones affiliated with the USPA must follow USPA laws and safety criteria.
In addition, because skydiving is an extreme activity, jumpers who want to do a tandem skydive must sign a waiver of rights.
This waiver of rights is a legally binding contract that acts as a contract, a release of obligation, and a risk assumption. To engage in a legally enforceable contract in the United States, an individual must be 18 years old.
Parents or legal guardians of minors under 18 are not permitted to relinquish their child’s rights and sign this contract on their behalf.
CAN YOU SKYDIVE AT 17 OR 16 WITH PARENTAL CONSENT?
All United States Parachute Association (USPA) member dropzones are prohibited from entertaining guests under 18 in the United States, regardless of parental agreement. Non-member USPA dropzones may accept guests under 18 on a case-by-case basis. Skydiving under the age of 18 is prohibited at most non-member dropzones.
WHY DO SKYDIVING AGE LIMITS VARY BY COUNTRY?
Due to the culture of liability, skydiving age limits differ in each country. Suits are widespread in the United States, considered a litigious society. In the United States, 18-year-olds are considered mature enough to understand the consequences of their actions and, as a result, to understand what they are signing when completing legal paperwork releasing skydiving centers and skydiving equipment manufacturers from liability regardless of negligence. In other nations with less litigious societies, it is more frequent to see people under the age of 18 participate because the question of parental consent has been proven in court.
