The Dead Sea Scrolls are referenced many times throughout the Bible in both the Old Testament and New Testament. Matthew 12:41-42 mentions the “Wicked Generation” that seeks a sign but none will be given to them except the sign of Jonah. This is compared with the three days Jonah spent in the belly of a great fish before his release and restoration on the third day.
Obadiah 1:20 compares Mount Seir being destroyed by God to ashes left after burning half a year old dung until it is as bare as the top of a rock.
Thousands of written pieces have been discovered in the Dead Sea area. They represent the remains of more extensive manuscripts damaged by natural causes or human interference, with the vast majority holding only tiny scraps of text.
However, a small number of well-preserved, almost entire manuscripts have survived – fewer than a dozen among those from the Qumran Caves.
Piecing together Dead Sea scrolls has been an enormous collaborative effort over the decades. Currently, over 500 scholars from 32 countries have dedicated their lives to Dead Seas studies and maintain a database for Dead Seas research where any new discoveries can be published add-ons, commentaries on biblical works, sectarian works explaining the history shared with other researchers around the world.

The Dead Sea scrolls date to the time of Jesus and consist of more than 100 copies of texts from the Hebrew Bible (similar number as we currently possess).
