The story of this graphic novel, American Born Chinese, consists of three different stories.
1st story is about the Monkey King, based on the legendry folk tale of the classic sixteenth-century Chinese novel.
2nd story is about Jin Wang, a first-generation child of immigrants, who has moved from San Francisco’s Chinatown to a predominantly white suburb and struggles to fit within white American culture.
The 3rd story is about a white American boy named Danny, who is trouble by the keen visits of his Chinese cousin Chin-Kee whose critical of American racial stereotypes of the Chinese.
However, all these three stories seemed different and unrelated at first, but it was later revealed Danny is Jin Wang from the first story, who transformed his Chinese outlooks to pursue the girl he loved.
