Short Story Overview

The story is a black comedy in which a fugitive killer explains he knows more than “A Time for Everything,” the poem that opens chapter 3 of the Book of Ecclesiastes, by implying that imminent death comes to all in Ecclesiastes 12:1, which states, “evil days come and the years draw near of which you will say, ‘I have no pleasure in them’.”

Its mysterious conclusion involves a dialogue between the killer and a rude, morally flawed; superficial Methodist grandmother dressed as an old-fashioned Southern lady.
